Weekend Favs January 21

My weekend blog post routine includes posting links to a handful of tools or great content I ran across during the week.

I don’t go into depth about the finds, but encourage you to check them out if they sound interesting. The photo in the post is a favorite for the week from an online source or one that I took out there on the road.

  • Flixel – Magical tools for visual storytelling! Dive into this new type of hybrid photography that combines a still photo with video.
  • WebSlides – Create beautiful stories! WebSlides makes HTML presentations easy.
  • Zoho – Zoho is the operating system for business. It has everything you need to boost sales, step up productivity, and manage all day-to-day activities.

These are my weekend favs, I would love to hear about some of yours – Tweet me @ducttape

12 Give Zoho Credit for Being Aggressive

ZohoI’ve written before about the potential of the online suite of tools under the banner of Zoho.

I really have not used them all enough to give glowing reports, but I’ve got to say I am totally impressed by the pace at which they seem able to release new tools and enhancements.

They match up nicely with Google Docs and Microsoft Office Live Small Business on the word processor, spreadsheet, presentation and database fronts, but then also throw in a CRM, Project management, Organizer, Mail and Chat.

They recently added an HR function called people and online invoicing. You can access the tools from your mobile phone, full API access, there are plug-ins for Outlook and Microsoft Office, and even one that allows you to post your documents to Facebook.

For someone who truly want to do it all online this is probably the most complete tool.

I would love to hear from anyone who has gone online 100% through tools like this to run their business.

4 Small business people management

zoho peopleThe web app builder Zoho is doing something pretty amazing. It’s building out the complete suite of small business tools online and doing it in the face of proclamations and claims of this vision from Google and Microsoft.

They have successful built tools for online spreadsheets, documents, presentations, databases, web meetings, mail, chat and CRM. This week they announced a nifty little tool called Zoho People. The aim of this tool is to allow businesses (big and small) to move their HR and recruiting online. The basic features include an employee database with management functions, org chart, process and approval maps, and employee portal.

My guess is bookkeeping and shipping can’t be far away.
