Describe yourself in 50 words or less

I'm essentially an artist, musician and storyteller with a long geeky streak marketing local businesses online with search, content and paid advertising.

What prompted you to join the network in the first place?

I wanted to learn the whole gamut of marketing, especially strategic messaging, positioning and how to operate as a high-level marketing consultant.

What is the primary benefit of the network to you?

I learn quickly and effectively by listening to others talk about what they do in an unfiltered format. The network is rich with this type of learning for me. I also really enjoy working with other consultants in support of their strategies and clients. I learn a lot and enjoy serving in the capacity of teaching as well as helping folks have successful engagements that last a long time.

How has being part of the network impacted your business?

It leads to higher paying engagements with our direct clients, when I handle it correctly :). In serving the network we do earn money from it and that is really appreciated, but I feel the biggest benefit is working with others I respect and learning how they approach things as well as feeling good when I can help them overcome an obstacle or have a better client experience. It's just fun.

What benefit surprised you the most once you joined?

Seeing the network grow from a scrappy group of hard working folks then really expand and continue to grow. Not that I didn't think it would happen, it's just so neat to see the quality of people that are attracted to the group. It's neat to see the magic in how Duct Tape Marketing attracts its own ideal clients

We learned how to grow our business. We learned how others in the network can help us grow our business. And, it taught us to think bigger about what we could do with our business.

How helpful and cooperative everyone in the network is.

Describe yourself in 50 words or less

I’m a strategic marketing advisor for B2B financial firms and business consultants. With >$40M in marketing spend managed and 20+ years of building marketing departments, I can guide you through what works and what doesn't, and provide honest, unbiased feedback on where to prioritize your efforts to get the highest impact.

What prompted you to join the network in the first place?

When I was setting up my boutique marketing consultancy I was looking at building a framework for a repeatable marketing system that could be used across different types of businesses. In my experience, most businesses struggled with many of the same types of marketing issues. In doing my research I realized that Duct Tape Marketing already had that framework and that repeatable marketing system. By joining the network I didn't have to reinvent the wheel.

What is the primary benefit of the network to you?

Learning how to run an effective marketing business, and how to scale that business beyond a single consultant.

How has being part of the network impacted your business?

It allowed me to accelerate my startup and growth phases, and really save me time and money from making mistakes.

What benefit surprised you the most once you joined?

What I wasn't expecting was the value I would receive from working with other consultants that are part of the network, and with other business and marketing experts that John is able to bring in. I'm in regular contact with other consultants across North America, South America, Asia, and Australia, and we discuss best practices. I've also had the opportunity to have direct conversations with some of the top business authors and experts that I've been following for over 20 years. I wasn't expecting that.

Creative problem solver who likes to move fast and break things but it learning to be more cautious.

What prompted you to join the network in the first place?

I felt stuck with the growth of my business and DTM seemed to have tools to get me moving.

What is the primary benefit of the network to you?

Having such a large and diverse pool of resources available. There's tools, training and most importantly live humans (the other consultants) who've been where I am that are available when I need help.

How has being part of the network impacted your business?

I'm doing a lot more planning and strategy work which I had wanted to do for a long time.

Describe yourself in 50 words or less

I live outside Nashville with my wife and 2 boys. We spend our time at church and the karate school mostly. This is my first business; I was in corporate America prior to DTM.

What prompted you to join the network in the first place?

I was looking for a framework with which to operate from. I have been doing "consulting" with friends and family since I got my Masters in 2005, but it was basically me giving ideas to my friends. DTM provides a framework to use when dealing with clients.

What is the primary benefit of the network to you?

The primary benefit of the network is the other people in the network. John brings together great people in one spot and having access to those minds is fantastic.

How has being part of the network impacted your business?

I started my business with Duct Tape, so almost all my growth can be directly or indirectly attributed to the network somehow. The most impactful is the access to the marketing packages. Those really helped me narrow down the offerings and they help me keep my head in one place.

What benefit surprised you the most once you joined?

I have friends in the network. I didn't expect that to happen.

Describe yourself in 50 words or less

Big picture, solution-based thinker that is easily distracted!

What prompted you to join the network in the first place?

My business was stuck and I needed an approach that offered a marketing system that I could provide to my clients.

What is the primary benefit of the network to you?

A combination of the systemization of solution delivery and the camaraderie and spirit of sharing and helping in the network.

How has being part of the network impacted your business?

It helped me move from project based work to recurring retainer base work.

What benefit surprised you the most once you joined?

That the members of the network are peers and colleagues, and not competitors. And that when we collaborate it works a lot better because we share a common view of marketing (the system and language) unlike when we work with other consultants outside the network.

I've been an entrepreneur most of my professional career and can't imagine doing anything else. I love working with small businesses to help them use marketing to grow their business with less stress.

What prompted you to join the network in the first place?

I was looking to grow my business and wanted additional resources and support.

What is the primary benefit of the network to you?

The relationships with other consultants and ongoing training and support from DTM.

How has being part of the network impacted your business?

It's been huge. I'm doing things in my business that I would not be doing had it not been for the network.

What benefit surprised you the most once you joined?

The network of consultants is amazing and the information that is readily shared has had a huge impact on my business.

I am a NZ born Consultant based in Santa Monica, CA specializing in marketing strategy and business development. Always curious, things that turn me on are design, the arts, culture, food, travel and making new friends. A favorite hobby is to climb big mountains around the world.

What prompted you to join the network in the first place?

I was introduced to the network through John's best selling book and was always impressed by the material I received from the network.

What is the primary benefit of the network to you?

The systems - they are logical, practical, robust and well thought out.

How has being part of the network impacted your business?

I'm getting better feedback on my systems and approach plus it has allowed me to offer more options to my clients.

Describe yourself in 50 words or less

As the head of Caliber Brand Strategy + Content Marketing, I take my 25 years of creative and strategic brainpower and blend it with the Duct Tape Marketing System to come to the rescue of small businesses who do not have a Marketing Department or have a Marketing Department Of One - which is either themselves or a Coordinator/Manager.

What prompted you to join the network in the first place?

I wanted a proven system for success. I was successful on paper but felt I could be so much more for my clients beyond a trial-and-error approach of tactics. Duct Tape Marketing was the key to bridging that gap. It was everything I was missing and then some.

What is the primary benefit of the network to you?

It's the answer that nobody expects before they join: I value the community of fellow marketers who can relate to the challenges we go through in our own way. The system is wonderful. The tools are great. But it is the people, the people, the people who are on your side and will do anything to help your agency be a success.

How has being part of the network impacted your business?

In a sea of consultants and agencies who are good at talking about the tactical Flavor of the Month, Caliber is one of the only firms to offer a system that puts strategy first and empowers the small business owner from there. I can't tell you how much that means for my confidence when I enter a room - not just knowing this is the best system of its kind but that I belong to a community that I truly believe is comprised of the best marketing consultants in the world.

What benefit surprised you the most once you joined?

Besides the relationships of this network, what you learn in the quarterly Bootcamps is immeasurable. You will drink from the firehose. But if you can retain half of what you've learned, you will be ahead of the game and probably implementing things that most people have only talked about. When you have that, you're no longer a "freelancer" or offering anything less than larger "full-service" agencies. With DTM powering your growth, you have the firepower and nimble structure to level the playing field and provide the best-of-both-worlds for small businesses - in our case, professional services firms.

Describe yourself in 50 words or less

Insatiably curious and eager to test what works, I’ve worked with small businesses owners for 20+ years to advance them through stages of growth and change. My goal with clients is to find the intersection of their business goals with their customers’ need to have a problem solved.

What prompted you to join the network in the first place?

I had a lot of intuitive ideas but needed a proven framework to help me run my marketing consultancy with better efficiency and planning.

What is the primary benefit of the network to you?

The primary benefit is the availability of the other consultants who act as an "upstream" of information and insight. They not only freely give insight to my specific questions but generously share their methods and tools.

How has being part of the network impacted your business?

I now have the language, tools, and support to build and grow my marketing consultant company. I no longer have to chase my tail, reinvent the wheel, or feel like I'm going it alone. Support is everywhere I look in the DTM network!

What benefit surprised you the most once you joined?

The high-quality continuous education that we're offered on a variety of topics to help me build my skills.

Describe yourself in 50 words or less

I am a business model nerd. I love to learn as much as I can about how a business operates. I like hearing the businesses' origin story and the path they followed to date. I enjoy knowing their desired goals for the future and helping as they chart their course to achieve their goals.

What prompted you to join the network in the first place?

I had been following John's work for many years. As the head of an in-house graphic design department, I had read his Duct Tape Marketing book. I had a copy of the marketing hourglass on my bulletin board, and I used it many times to describe the marketing process to my internal clients. When my plan to expand my department by offering marketing strategy and support in addition to graphic design was turned down, I decided it was time to go out on my own and offer these services to clients who couldn't justify an in-house marketing department.

What is the primary benefit of the network to you?

The primary benefit of joining the network has been the proven product offerings and packages designed by the network and accompanied by helpful sales strategy, marketing collateral, and operational support.

How has being part of the network impacted your business?

Being part of this network has reshaped my business model and my launch plans. I would have made numerous rookie mistakes if it were not for the practical experience-based wisdom shared with me by John and many of the other network members.

What benefit surprised you the most once you joined?

The benefit of joining the network that surprised me most is how welcoming and helpful the other members have been. I expected John and his team to be helpful, and they are very helpful and supportive. I also expected the other members to be guarded and unwilling to share their "secret sauce recipes" because they considered me their competition. I was pleasantly surprised by the welcoming and helpful attitude shown to me by the network members.

Describe yourself in 50 words or less

In 2015, I joined DTM as an independent marketing consultant with no intention of growing my practice beyond just me. Today, I have a real live business with 16+ retainer clients, a brick and mortar office, three full-time employees, and a network of independent contractors to help me get it all done.

What prompted you to join the network in the first place?

John Jantsch's overall approach as a thought leader broke through my usual skepticism of all of the marketing "gurus" out there who were trying to sell me a book, online course, workshop, etc.
So I dug in deep to learn more about DTM before I pulled the trigger. It turned out to be the right decision, for sure.

What is the primary benefit of the network to you?

In the first couple of years, the network training helped me build systems for my business without starting from scratch. Today, it's primarily the network that helps me stay current on local marketing tactics and trends.

How has being part of the network impacted your business?

When I started with the network, I didn't really have a business. I had business cards, a website, and an email address, but it wasn't a real business like it is today.

What benefit surprised you the most once you joined?

The culture among the group is truly collaborative. I thought there would be an element of competition among the consultants and it's just not the case.

Describe yourself in 50 words or less

I’m a 20+ year corporate marketer, occasional consultant living in Oakville, Ontario. When I’m not helping business get more from their marketing, I’m enjoying my family, running, or planning how to move to Costa Rica.

What prompted you to join the network in the first place?

I have been following John for years. I finally decided the time was right to push harder to build a consulting practice and the tools I saw in the network seemed like a dream come true in terms of helping me navigate those waters.

What is the primary benefit of the network to you?

It’s a close call between the processes and tools and the people in the network. Initially, the processes and tools were a huge help (and continue to be), but the more I get to know people and engage with the network, the more value I get from those interactions.

How has being part of the network impacted your business?

It has given me the confidence to speak with prospects and clients knowing I am well-versed in the programs that are going to make a real difference in their business.

What benefit surprised you the most once you joined?

The openness and sharing of the other consultants in the network - and how comprehensive the training was.

Describe yourself in 50 words or less

During the workday, I'm a marketing consultant for established small businesses with a preference for working with B2B clients. My key strengths lie in strategy (including business model generation), messaging, and website development. Outside of work, I'm a husband of 1, a father of 3, a closet rock star, and an aspiring luthier (guitar builder).

What prompted you to join the network in the first place?

I was a fan of Michael Gerber (author of E-Myth) and decided I needed to apply a more systematic approach to marketing, both for my clients and my business. When I came across the Duct Tape Marketing book and podcast, things started to click. The network seemed like a great headstart.

What is the primary benefit of the network to you?

The tools, methods, and training from Duct Tape are excellent and they do a great job of innovating and improving them based on changing marketing trends. And the annual Summits and Bootcamps are also excellent opportunities for professional development. But the connections I've been able to make within the network, and the generosity of other members in sharing their own experience and expertise have been invaluable. I've found my tribe.

How has being part of the network impacted your business?

Being part of the network has helped me to shift my approach toward retainer-style engagements with clients. This has resulted in a more steady cashflow and less client turnover. It's enabled me to achieve far greater results for my clients as we work together on the evolution of their marketing program, rather than just one-off tactics.

Describe yourself in 50 words or less

I live in Chicagoland with my beautiful wife and 2 great teenagers. My wife is a 5th grade teacher in a local public school and I run MarketVisory Group, a healthcare marketing agency. We help independent, locally owned healthcare practices grow. I have over 20 years experience doing marketing in healthcare.

What prompted you to join the network in the first place?

I launched MarketVisory Group coming straight out of large corporate America. They are night and day different and I knew I needed help. For me, the Network is a great fit because it offers a ton of ongoing support, but with a lot of flexibility for me to do what I do how I want to do it. There are other marketing networks available that look and feel like franchises. They also offer tools and growth strategies, but for me, those are too restrictive and expensive. Duct Tape strikes the right balance.

What is the primary benefit of the network to you?

The dual focus of helping me do great marketing and helping me grow MarketVisory Group. The Network offers a ton of tools and programming targeting both areas. That combo is rare.

How has being part of the network impacted your business?

I launched MarketVisory Group at the same time I certified into the Network. Without a doubt, the Network has saved me years of trial and error and the thousands of dollars that go with it. Now that I feel like I'm on better footing, the ongoing challenge of any marketing agency is staying up to date. And, how do you find good sources of learning vs. junk? Duct Tape really helps out. Between the knowledge in the Network plus what John Jantsch and his team put out, it's much easier and more efficient to find high quality sources of new learning.

What benefit surprised you the most once you joined?

The amount of trust in the community of consultants to share and help each other. More or less, the Network is a collection of small to mid-sized marketing agencies all facing similar challenges. We all share with each other openly. I've benefited and contribute whenever I can. We answer questions on our Facebook group, we run workshops for each other, consult together, collaborate together, and spot problem solve. Topics range from deep techo-Google questions to how to price services better to anything in between.

Related to this is how open John Jantsch is with his own network and sharing it with us. We've benefited from Network only speaking events with Seth Godin, Joost de Valk, Mike Michalowicz, Jeff Goins, Mike Blumenthal, John Warrillow, Brant Menswar, Joey Coleman, Jay Baer, Todd Henry, David Finkel, and of course, John Jantsch.

I'm passionate about helping businesses and their owners THRIVE. By leveraging over 20 years of marketing experience and the Duct Tape Marketing System the Outsourced Marketing team provides clients with exceptional results through proven expertise in website design, SEO, Google Ads and implementing powerful marketing systems into their business.

What prompted you to join the network in the first place?

I knew I needed a marketing system to deliver to my clients and I didn't want to reinvent the wheel. John and his proven marketing system were a perfect match.

What is the primary benefit of the network to you?

The Duct Tape Marketing Consultant Network is a band of brothers and sisters who openly and supportively share the journey of owning and running a marketing agency/consultancy. There's nothing like connecting with like-minded individuals, who speak the same marketing dialect and are super generous with their time and experience.

Having preferred vendors (with discounts), and recommended tools that have already been vetted has been a money-saver for sure.

How has being part of the network impacted your business?

Outsourced Marketing has grown in double digits, I've co-authored a book with other consultants (which achieved a marketing best-seller status), and the continual camaraderie, professional development, answering questions, and simply being available has impacted my business in tremendous ways.

What benefit surprised you the most once you joined?

At my first Duct Tape Marketing Summit (2 months into joining DTMC) I was surprised by the willingness of seasoned members freely offering that I could call them any time if I wanted to talk or ask questions. Knowing how busy everyone is that really impressed me with the quality of people within the network.

Another surprise has been the incredible quality speakers that John Jantsch is able to attract from his circles. Learning at the feet of John and industry-leading experts is a powerful way to stay on the leading edge of marketing and entrepreneurism.

Describe yourself in 50 words or less

I am a passionate business owner who loves working with other business owners and helping them get results.

What prompted you to join the network in the first place?

I joined the network to link with other like minded people and to also be able to apply more structure into the services that Content Box had been selling and to access valuable resources available for Duct Tape.

What is the primary benefit of the network to you?

For me, being able to link with other Duct Tape members, outside of Australia is hugely valuable. Also to be able to use the resources that have already been developed and integrate them into my own services offerings has been gold. Having the Duct Tape framework to follow in a logical sequence has been really useful not only for my own business, but also for my clients business. I also really love the partner programs, as again, the research has been done and I know that the recommended suppliers can deliver on what they are promising.

How has being part of the network impacted your business?

It has provided more structure and a logical sequence for my own business and has then allowed me to apply this to my clients business as well. It has also helped me narrow down the services we offer and target more of the ideal client.

What benefit surprised you the most once you joined?

The amount of learning and resources that is available and the fact that we are able to use these resources and adapt to our own context. I love this part as it save me so much time in researching and developing my own. This is the real hidden value in what Duct Tape do.

Describe yourself in 50 words or less

In the web industry since 1995, always striving to get better at what I do. I live on the west coast of Canada with my family and pets. I am a BNI support director for Vancouver Island, and a Toastmaster.

What prompted you to join the network in the first place?

The strategy and system. After listening to John for too long I really observed that marketing is such a nebulous word, everybody with a computer can claim to be a web designer or marketer. They often do not know what they are doing. Running a web design and development company for 20 years, I wanted to offer more and be better.

What is the primary benefit of the network to you?

The expertise of others. As the 'net evolves, the role and practices of marketing will change, and I look forward to learning from others.

How has being part of the network impacted your business?

I am starting to think differently about our offerings and realizing the big potential. I had to reach out after the summit because I got a request for something we hadn't done before.

What benefit surprised you the most once you joined?

How many components of marketing the network and DTU covers, and that much involves following the steps and the system to bring success to my clients.

Describe yourself in 50 words or less

I'm a marketing coach for remodeling contractors. Big picture thinker with focus on details, which fits naturally with coaching. I love to teach and break down marketing concepts so anyone can understand. Two of my favorite things are interviewing my clients' clients and streamlining marketing programs to get results.

What prompted you to join the network in the first place?

I was looking for structure and methodology as I became a marketing consultant. I came from a background in product marketing but was lost starting a consulting practice. I appreciated that I didn't have to recreate the wheel.

What is the primary benefit of the network to you?

It's hard to choose one. Having moved from consulting to coaching, the current primary benefit of the network to me is being kept up-to-date on the everchanging tools and tactics so that I can filter and apply that to benefit my coaching clients.

How has being part of the network impacted your business?

Having been in the network since 2010, I can honestly say that my business wouldn't look anything like it does if not for Duct Tape Marketing. The DTM "strategy before tactics" approach and methodology are at the heart of how I work with my clients to build their internal marketing department and own their marketing. It's important to me to consider the entirety of a company's marketing, and what the network provides in resources and collaboration means that I'm able to take a high level 30,000 foot view while also helping the marketing coordinator with the details of their programs.

What benefit surprised you the most once you joined?

John's ongoing commitment to the network. He pours himself and resources into helping us be better prepared to serve our clients. But also unexpected was the intense collaboration and helpful nature of the other consultants. I didn't realize how much that would mean to me.

The world is in the midst of an incredible shift in power and economic structure. It is a fantastic opportunity and is also incredibly scary. Working for yourself and building a business is where you'll find security in the future. We opened our marketing business to help people do that!

What prompted you to join the network in the first place?

Marketing is more than just a sales funnel. I joined the network to tap into an organization's knowledge and expertise that understands this and has been helping business owners succeed for over 20 years.

What is the primary benefit of the network to you?

You are the sum of the five people you hang around. I am proud to surround myself with the fantastic people in the network in business and in marketing.

How has being part of the network impacted your business?

Being in the network has allowed me to see behind the curtains of several other successful marketing businesses and see how they deliver premium services while providing exceptional customer experiences. Applying this in my practice has genuinely been a gamer changer!

What benefit surprised you the most once you joined?

The network provides workshops lead by other consultants in the network. These workshops allow them to show us their step-by-step processes in their business. Step-by-step: How to do SEO for local companies, Create an engaging presentation, Build an automation funnel (using the Marketing Hourglass). What more could a marketing consultant ask for, really?

Describe yourself in 50 words or less

After years of thriving in the corporate world, I had a strong urge to pursue something more meaningful and fulfilling. So, I set out to build my own consultancy through which I could impact my community in a more profound way. Currently, I am the only DTM certified consultant here in the Gulf region.

What prompted you to join the network in the first place?

I have great passion for helping small businesses succeed in their own businesses and I wanted a proven system that would help me help them. With DTM, there’s no need to reinvent the wheel. It’s already tried and tested. It's a complete roadmap for small business marketing consultants.

What is the primary benefit of the network to you?

Being part of the network has definitely helped me stay ahead of the game, especially in my region through its vast resources and immediate updates on constant changes in the marketing world.

How has being part of the network impacted your business?

It has helped keep me inspired and informed. I rely very much on the resources I find through the network. Being based in the Middle East, I wasn't sure that all the tools and the processes would apply to my market, but I realized that the fundamentals are the same wherever you are, when it comes to running a small business. It was a really pleasant surprise to see that most of the resources shared in the network were still useful to my region.

What benefit surprised you the most once you joined?

The level of support I receive from my fellow consultants in the network, as well as the framework, templates, tools and resources provided by the DTM.
